Paris will always be Paris
No where to go... cultural events cancelled, restaurants and bars closed, museums and monuments not accessible, public transport not enticing, weather depressing... BUT as Maurice Chevalier sang so well,
“Paris will always be Paris!
The more we reduce our lighting,
the more we see our courage shining,
the more we see our spirit brighten,
Paris will always be Paris!”

When Paris welcomes me...
When you return from your summer holidays and reality hasn't quite hit you yet... when you get an extra bonus in form of a sunny, hot September week... when Paris is still void of tourists... when it all seems to be too good to be true... THIS is when I fall in love with Paris again!

B&W weekend
It might be that the locals are all still escaping town while the weather is nice, it might be the travel restrictions banning oversees tourist from visiting the city, it might be the partial Saturday lockdown in preparation of the gilets jaunes, it might be that people are still weary of wondering around outside... whatever the reason the city is spectacular to flaneuse around this month. Even in black and white Paris is still stunning!

Life goes on with a lockdown routine
It has been four weeks now since the lockdown began and it seems like a lifetime has passed. Looking back who would have ever believed we could all be ok with staying inside and - if some governments have their way - even have our every step geo-tracked?!? How fast plans can change and how adaptable human beings can be?
We have been confined to our flat in Paris for a month and the city has never seen sooooo much sunshine and blue skies.....EVER!
It is also eerily quiet. For a country that receives 91 million tourists a year going out for a jog before 10am or after 7pm - with my justification approved by the state - is like running through a Woodie Allen movie set... surreal!
During this period of confinement, many a moment gets stuck in my mind and I am sure they will remain with me once all this is over. Hearing Andrea Bocelli singing from an open balcony window while running past the Eiffel Tower last night was definitely a magical one.
Parisian attitude has shifted tremendously... people are friendlier and actually smile and talk to each other. We are still allowed to go out during the day to shop for essentials at supermarkets, pharmacies, bakeries and.... the wine shop is also open! This tells you about the country's priorities... if we go under it will be in style as always!
The highlight of many kids are the nightly applauses at 8pm when Parisians step out onto their balconies paying tribute to the health workers in a collective act of solidarity. During this nightly show of appreciation the little ones get to bang pots, blow horns and make as much noise as they can.
In general people are respecting the rules and regulations also due to salty fines handed out by the police who are all over the city. Many road checks have been set up before Easter to make sure Parisians don't escape to the countryside taking the virus with them and spreading it.
So far, we have cancelled a trip to Ibiza, one to Lugano and Semana Santa in Madrid... but not a person prone to regrets, I am planning my next suntanning session on my parquet floor in front of the window... because desperate times require desperate measures!
