Expat with Kids in Lugano

It all started with an English online guide to the lovely city of Lugano. My blog baptised "Expat with Kids" was the first of its kind back in 2010. I am by far not the only kid on the block any longer but still blog with great pleasure about the part of Switzerland which I used to call home for nearly five years.

Today is "Expat with Kids" eight year anniversary and I am proud to have kept a piece of home alive and even branched out to Expat with Kids in Paris!

The elegance of Christian Dior

When in Paris do as the locals... how could I resist "Les Journées Particulières" organised by LVMH?

The event centers on the five senses showcasing the savoir-faire and creativity of artisans, along with the architectural and cultural heritage of the luxury group.

The principle behind "Les Journées Particulières" is to offer a broad and diverse public an opportunity to discover the elements that give LVMH houses – some of them founded centuries ago – their unique identity.

I was lucky enough to discover the inner workings of Christian Dior. A House that embodies the core values behind the group’s success: excellence, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation.

As Christian Dior once said: “A woman's perfume tells more about her than her handwriting. ”

Pit Stop in Paris

In between two trips but always enough time to "flâner" around Paris, take some nice shots... and enjoy a good meal!

Foddie discoveries in Tokyo

At the exit from the airport, my mind focused on the fact that I was really, finally in Japan. Starting with that, I tried to collect and stack all the details I found: materials, light, texture, smell – I wanted it all at once.

Not a foodie by nature, I was more fascinated by the colours of the labels and the food presentation ranging from plastic examples of a dish to an exotic looking aisle of sweets or a colourful drink dispenser. The display of flavours with fake ice cream cones, however, took the cake! Never again will I be able to choose a flavour in an Italian gelato parlour without thinking of the Japanese showcase.

Our first night out and the sushi is EXTRAORDINARY!

These products seem to be very popular with the locals

Juice, milk or tea?!?

No clue!

Fascinated by these drink dispensers

Food mock-ups displayed everywhere... and it just doesn't do justice to the real thing.

Can I take one of these home and hang it up in my room???

Might be hard to find the entrance?

Spaces in Tokyo

You cannot feel alone in Tokyo. Sound is everywhere: voice recordings in and outside trains, toilets, the beep-beep at stops, huge visual and vocal commercials on buildings, crowds, gigs in the street, cars, laughter, trains, the slurping of noodle soups, the ka-ching of machines, people greeting whenever you enter or leave somewhere.

Public space is not a clear geometrical shape, like a square or piazza in Europe, but rather a 3D experience that takes your eyes over, below, then across and around the street and its buildings.

Everything is movement. Continuous flow. Tokyo is a city where space expands and unfolds as if you’re looking through a wide-angle lens. Each time you twist or turn, you get another perspective and you are standing in the middle of it all, wondering in and out of the picture as you please.
